Keen for Dover to support London, when they won the 2012 Olympic Games and an idea was suggested that Dover could host a pre Olympic Archery Tournament in the same way that Bournemouth does for Wimbledon and tennis.
A meeting was called with all the key archery people and following that meeting the Grand National Archery Society asked if Dover would be prepared to host the European Archery Grand Prix in 2007. The event was upgraded to World Cup status which involved 270 of the best archers in the World.

Councillor Ken Tranter, Dover District Council and Roger Say, Bursar of the Duke of York School and Mike McFarnell, hotelier have been working hard on the event.
Concept
Take this blighted area on the corner of Woolcomber Street and Townwall Street and turn it into a floral feature to promote the World Cup Archery in August 2007.
A sculptor of an archery figure to form part of the display which may include banners.
Project to be completed with voluntary help and donations given for the plants.
Progress achieved

Dover District Council have cut the grass and removed much of the litter.
The area is now cut twice a year.
